Notwithstanding the uncertanties in sediment distribution, the spatial patterning of deformation in (and around) Neoproterozoic basins in Australia is, to large degree, explicable in terms of the thermal structuring of a heterogeneous lithosphere during repeated tectonism associated with in-situ stress regimes imposed by "far-field" processes (e.g. Sandiford & Hand, 1998).

Does the model of thermal structuring
"fail the isotopic test"?

No yet, Afredo!
